Tourette
Syndrome is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by repeated
involuntary movements and vocalizations called tics. There are significant
associated conditions which compound the impact on patient's lives.
Approximately 50-70% have Attention Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). In addition, learning disabilities,
obsessive compulsive behaviors, impulse control difficulties, sleep
disorders, and mood disorders often accompany TS. It is not uncommon
for an affected individual to have several, if not all, of these to
some degree over the course of a lifetime. Clinical experience suggests
that these associated conditions are more troublesome than the tics
for the person with TS.
